End of the year reminder from Havana Junior High

Hello HJH parents and guardians, Today, 5/26, is our last full day of school. All students will turn in their Chromebooks and chargers by the end of today, if they have not done so already. Any damage to a chromebook or a charger, could result in a fee that will be applied to your students' account. If they have misplaced or lost a charger, that cost is $45. Tomorrow, Friday 5/27, is our Report Card day. Students are NOT required to come to school tomorrow. If they come to pick up their report card, they can leave right after that, as long as everything is turned in (laptop and charger). If they have to ride a bus to school and home, they can stay at school, but they will be put to work helping move our classrooms to the gym to prepare for our big summer flooring project here at HJH. If your student does not attend tomorrow, you will be able to view their report card in Alma and we will also email cards to parent accounts. We know this year (and the past few years), has been very trying for everyone, but we appreciate all your support and help getting through some tough times. Without your patience and understanding, the last few years would have been even more difficult, so THANK YOU PARENTS AND GUARDIANS!!! Registration for the 2022-23 school year will take place on Wednesday, August 3rd, here at the JH, from 9am-1pm, and 2:30-5:30pm. We hope to see you in August..have a fantastic summer! Go Ducks!

Good morning! Just a reminder that today, Friday, March 25th is our March SIP Day and we have a 12:05 dismissal here at the Junior High. It is also that time of year for State testing in the District. We start here at the JH on Monday with the 5th and 6th grade, which should be done by the end of next week. 7th and 8th graders will have the IAR test 3/31-4/7. These schedules will allow us to keep our main schedule intact here at the JH for all testing days and not throw the students off too much. A few things to remember for testing weeks: - sleep is paramount for our students to be ready to perform well and have the ability to focus. We do break up the testing, so it is not constant, but it can be difficult for some, if they are not rested. - diet and what they are putting in their bodies is also very important. The District provides free breakfast each morning here, or they should try and eat something before they arrive at school. - we also provide healthy snacks and mints throughout the testing days, to help focus and attention. The main idea is for the students to give a good effort, have a good attitude and not stress about how they do, just try their best each and every day, which is what we want every day they walk through these doors. Some other important dates coming up: - 4th Quarter midterm is Friday, April 8th - We have a Spring Break this year, 4/11-4/15, school resumes on Monday, April 18th. - SID Day on Friday, May 6th - 8th grade Bridging Ceremony is Monday, May 16th - 8th grade trip and last day for 8th graders is Tuesday, May 17th - Last day of school is Friday, May 27th (due to snow days this year) If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you to our parents and guardians for your help and support this year and let's have a great end to the 2021-22 school year! Go Ducks!

HAVANA CUSD #126 Dear Havana #126 employees, students, and families, I write to ask for your patience and understanding as our district navigates the latest changes to the COVID-19 guidance and rules for Illinois schools. On Friday night a Sangamon County judge ruled on a lawsuit filed on behalf of students, parents and employees against ISBE, IDPH, and 146 school districts across the state that challenged state-mandated COVID-19 mitigations. We have been reviewing all the information in the judge’s decision and been in contact with school district attorneys to better understand how the ruling may apply to those of us not involved in the law. The ruling and temporary restraining order issued only applies to the parties named in the lawsuit. The judge denied a motion to have her decision applied to all students, staff and employees state wide earlier in the proceedings. The Attorney General’s office has filed a motion to stay (pause) the decision which could be ruled on in the next couple of days. They also filed a motion to appeal the decision in the appellate courts. This appellate court decision will either uphold or overturn the circuit court decision. An appellate court decision will establish precedent and most likely apply to all schools statewide. The appellate court will rule by February 17th. We would very much appreciate your patience for just a little bit longer. Although this ruling doesn’t apply to our district directly, it has opened the door to possible changes coming very soon to all Illinois Schools. Thank you for your continued support of our students, teachers, and staff. While it has been a challenging 2 years, we will continue to push forward together. Sincerely, Superintendent Plater
