This is Mr. McKinney at the High School. Tomorrow, August 10th is registration. All high school students will register in the high school office area. Enter into the building through the gym doors on the west side of the school. In person registration is open from 9:00 – 1:00, 2:30 – 5:30. You can still register on-line though Alma Start if you wish. As per the Governor’s order, anyone entering the building will have to wear a mask the whole time they are inside. We will have a table set up in the hallway where you will pick up your demographic sheet and make any changes to it, so we can update your records in the student management system. Yearbooks will be passed out in Room 26. Fees, schedule changes can be done in the office. We also will have signup sheet for those that would like to opt into our testing to stay in school program. Signing up would mean that when a student has been close contact to a positive case we could do the minimal evasive quick nasal swab test to ensure whether or not they were positive. If they were not positive then they would stay in school. We think we will have a lot of parents’ sign their students up for the program tomorrow and we in turn should only have to quarantine students in the program when they are actually positive. At the high school, we had 569 quarantined students last year. We had several students that were quarantined multiple times, so signing up for this program could significantly reduce those numbers. We would also ask that if your student has received the vaccine for COVID that you bring in the card and we can make a copy of it and put it in their file. Students who have been vaccinated and are symptom free do not have to quarantine due to close contact. For those that have registered on-line, the test to stay forms are on the link on the district website along with other information about Covid protocols this year. It is located under the scrolling photos in white box marked (Covid/Return To School Info). You can print off a permission sheet and have your student bring a completed one to school the first day of school. We will also have copies in the office. We are going to get through this year with less academic and athletic interruptions and more normal activities for our students and the test to stay program will support this greatly. Thank You

As extracurricular activities begin practices in the district this week and next week, in accordance with Governor JB Pritzker's mask mandate for schools during his speech on August 4th, the IHSA adopted their sports guidance in accordance with IDPH as well. At this time, the IDPH all-sports policy "requires masks to be worn for all indoor IHSA athletic events regardless of an individual’s vaccination status. This mask directive for indoor athletic events applies to student-athletes, coaches, officials, game personnel, and fans." To view the IHSA announcement on the new mask policy, please visit the following link address: https://www.ihsa.org/News-Media/Announcements/august-4-idph-update-masks-temporarily-required-for-indoor-sports. Anyone with questions can contact Havana School District Athletic Director, Tyler Southwood, by email at tsouthwood2@havana126.net. As always, decisions related to COVID are changing regularly and things remain very fluid. Any new announcements will be posted to the Havana School District webpage.
