The Havana High School band has been working incredibly hard to start the school year to prepare for various parades, field shows, and their halftime performance during our football games. The Havana Booster Club will be selling pork chops at tonight's varsity football game. The Booster Club has entered the 2022 Pork and Pigskins Pork Chop competition through the IHSA and the Illinois Pork Producers Association. If you purchase a pork chop, fans are once encouraged to post photos and/or video on social media of their pick for the top pork chop sandwich contenders using the hashtag #PorkandPigskins Online voting will eventually determine the "Savory 16" sites/schools that will contend for the championship to be announced on October 22nd. The winner will be recognized at the 2022 IHSA Football State Championships on November 26 at Memorial Stadium in Champaign-Urbana. The state champ will also receive a prize package from the Illinois Pork Producers Association that includes a $500 reimbursement on their pork purchase for next season, a state championship banner, and the coveted Golden Spatula. So, get yourself a pork chop tonight and post how delicious they are to help the Booster Club capture the title for the best pork chop under the Friday night lights!
For those attending tonightâs varsity football game, please remember that we have a new fence surrounding the athletic fields and football complex. Please enter at the main admissions gate on the west side of the main bleachers. All other gates and access points will be closed. Do NOT park on the football practice field. Cones will designate the area off limits to park in the grass for the practice field. There will be parking in a portion of the grass between the main admission gate and Route 97. Parking is also available in the high school parking lots. Visiting fans can park in the Havana Junior High School parking lot (to the west of the junior high) and enter at the visiting admissions gate behind the visiting bleachers. The access road between the junior high and high school will be unavailable as well. Please understand that some areas are still a work in progress and still under construction. Tonightâs varsity football game will be the 98th regular season meeting in the storied Stone Axe rivalry game between the Havana and Lewistown School Districts that dates all the way back to the first meeting in 1898! Havana holds 47 wins, Lewistown 48, and 2 ties!
