I am happy to share that Havana Schools will be moving to the Community Eligibility Program for next school year. The National School Food Service reimbursement program traditionally required families to verify income to determine if meals were free, reduced or paid. The Community Eligibility Program bases reimbursement on the demographics of the entire community and eliminates the individual family eligibility. This change will make 1 reimbursable breakfast and 1 reimbursable lunch at no cost to all students for the coming year regardless of family income. Money will only need to be deposited to purchase extra food items that exceed the standard breakfast or lunch offering going forward. This change will not affect any prior account balances from prior years and only apply to meals going forward. We are excited about this change and the benefit it will be to all families.
Fourth grade students enjoyed treats from Peaches today.

Students in Mrs. Strauman's class combined science and social emotional learning lessons to make a human circuit. When everyone works together, the circuit is complete and the stick lights up. If just one person doesn't do their job, or refuses to cooperate, energy doesnt flow and the stick will not light up. These students are ready to work together to finish the year strong. Go Ducks!

Students and staff at New Central will have the opportunity to dress up and donate for St.Jude Week April 3-7. Students and Staff can participate in each dress up day and make a donation of any amount. The class that raises the most will get a special prize! All donations will go directly to St. Jude.

Thursday (3/30) is the last day to order a New Central yearbook. Order online at: http://www.memorybook.com/online-pay/parent-pay/ with code 232269

Yesterday, students in Mr. Deters' math intervention group, worked together to convert customary units of lengths to another!

Mrs. Deters' class had a visit from Ms. Sky today for Nutrition. They played a game where they had to toss the bean bag into hula hoops. If they made it, the class did 5 jumping jacks. If they missed, they had to do 10. They had to work together to get 15 bean bags in the hula hoops. What a fun way to work on team work and exercise at the same time!

Fourth graders Graham and Davis combined their math knowledge with their love of Legos in a recent project. Using real Lego bricks and a virtual Lego website, the boys built structures that met certain requirements such as area, perimeter, scale, and the percent of blocks that were a certain color.
