Second graders visited Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site on Thursday. They were excited to walk in the footsteps of Abraham Lincoln and see what life was like in the 1830's. It was a day full of history, learning, and fun!

Thank you to the Havana Public Library for hosting all three first grade classes today. Students learned how to check out books and heard about many of the fun programs offered by the library. We encourage all Havana students to take advantage of the library's services and keep reading and learning this summer.

What's better than BINGO? BINGO and new books! First graders had a fun afternoon reviewing numbers by playing BINGO, and then picking books as prizes. Everyone left with several books to help them practice their reading over the summer!

Third graders delivered a donation to the Havana Area Food Pantry today. They raised money in December at the Annual Third Grade Garage Sale. Third grade has donated funds to many organizations over the years, but this one is close to our hearts.

Good morning. Due to the current wintery road conditions in the southern part of the district, Havana CUSD #126 will be CLOSED on Monday, January 6th. This closure includes all students both in the district and those who may travel out of district for classes. Since the winter storm warning expires at noon and conditions may improve throughout the day, decisions on any extracurricular activities will be made at a later time. Administration will reach out to coaches/sponsors and communicate in a timely manner. Stay safe and stay warm.

Unfortunately, our phone system is down again in the Havana 126 School District. Please email your child's teacher or an administrator for any communication. Thank you.

This is a friendly reminder that Tuesday, November 26th is a regular school day with no early dismissal. We wish everyone a a Happy Thanksgiving and we are grateful for all of our students, staff, and families.

New Central wishes Mrs. Mason a very Happy 50th Birthday!!

So many fun things are happening in 1st grade this week from voting to special visitors. Mrs. Deters class has adopted a cow this year. While our calf is too far away to visit, we had the opportunity to meet sweet Daisy. They had the chance to ask questions and pet her.

First graders learned about the voting process today as they decided on a class treat - Oreos or chocolate chip cookies. Students went to their polling place, received a ballot, went into the voting booth and finally placed their ballot in the ballot box. They also practiced persuasive writing and graphing. Thanks to Summer Brown's office for providing "I Voted" stickers.

This week is fire safety week. Please take some time to review where your family will meet in the event of a house fire.
Thanks to Chief Fliege for hosting first grade and kindergarten students this week and reviewing important safety rules with them.
Did you know that chargers for electrical devices are one of the leading causes of house fires? Make sure to charge devices on a table or countertop!

Keeping up with the pumpkin theme, Miss. Rout's class painted pumpkins. Students talked about the shape of a pumpkin, how it feels as well as working on colors. Go Ducks!

Miss.Ruot's class has been learning about pumpkins and took some time today to make pumpkin cloud dough. We learned about measuring ingredients and mixing them together. Go Ducks!

It's a boy! 2nd Graders just finished up a Monarch butterfly unit in Science which included bringing in caterpillars and watching them form chrysalises and then emerge as butterflies. Today, Mrs. Mason's class got to release their first butterfly!

Our first grade math whizzes took on the Principal's test and rocked it! Way to go first grade! We are very proud of you!

We want to thank John Lorek, Illinois Ability Sports and all who participated in the first ever Special Olympics Golf Outing Fundraiser. $1,500 was donation to the Havana Special Olympics Program, thanks you for your generosity.

The first graders enjoyed a special treat today to celebrate the solar eclipse. We want to send a shout out to Tama's Treats for donating cupcakes for the first grade! They were a huge hit!
