Update for all JH students, staff, and parents ... Although we had planned to go outside for the eclipse on Monday, our shipment of safe viewing glasses has still not arrived as of this time. Attempts to contact the company have not been successful - either by phone or e-mail - nor has the order status been updated online with a tracking number. Mrs. Tomm had purchased sets of glasses on two different occasions this summer, but was not able to verify their safety even though they were sold as certified. Rather than pose a risk to the students, she returned them and placed the third order with a company who could verify the safety. Without the safe glasses, we feel it best to have all students remain inside during the eclipse. Students and teachers will be able to follow the eclipse as it travels across the United States using the NASA Live website. There will also be classroom lessons and activities to allow students to learn more about the event. Although we are hopeful they will arrive as promised, we want to let parents know about this development to allow them to make alternate arrangements for viewing. Visit https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety for more details about safe viewing.

New Central will be having activities throughout the day relating to the solar eclipse. We have purchased ISO 12312-2 and CE filtering glasses for each child to observe the eclipse. Teachers will supervise for a brief time outside before returning back to class. There will be no outside PE or recess that day and if you do not want your child to participate outdoors, please send a note to your child's teacher indicating as such.

At the High School, on Monday August 21, 2017 we will observe the solar eclipse for the students that would like to view it. We have purchased ISO 12312-2 and CE filtering glasses for each of the students. Students will leave their class and go with their teacher to their assigned areas when we have a fire drill at the beginning of 7th period at 1:13 p.m. right after attendance is taken. In our area the eclipse will be at its peak at 1:17 p.m. They may view it a short time, then the bell will ring and they will report back to class with their instructor. If you do not want your student to view the eclipse please call the office. 309-543-3337
