Students in Mrs. Tomm's 7th & 8th-grade science classes enjoyed a beautiful day at Emiquon Preserve on Tuesday to conduct a Biodiversity Blitz. They completed a blitz at Chautauqua Refuge last week. The students worked in teams to capture as many different species of insects as they could and snapped pictures of each one before releasing them. They will use the pictures to determine the biodiversity of the habitats at Emiquon as part of their Ecology unit and develop reports for the refuge/preserve directors. Many students were able to capture monarch butterflies to "tag" them with a sticker for the Monarch Watch program. Special thanks to all the teachers, aides, and parents who helped make it a great experience for the students!
