At the high school: I have not been able to find a Spanish Instructor. It looks like we will have Spanish classes online this year. Students will sit in the Spanish classroom the same hour they are assigned their Spanish class and they will work with an online instructor during that time. There will be a remote instructor with homework and quizzes and tests submitted online and feedback will be provided from remote instructor. This will be a little more rigorous than former students are used to. Students will need a headset with a microphone. If you would like to change classes contact Mr. Wherley by registration. Keep in mind some colleges do not require Spanish and that competitive colleges require 2 years of Spanish and some colleges that are elite require 3 or 4 years. It all depends on what you plan to do.
Example: Harvard requires 4 years of Spanish, Stanford requires 3 years of Spanish, University of Illinois, Illinois State requires 2 years of Spanish, Western IL University does not require any high school Spanish.
I will continue to look for an instructor and hopefully by next year we can find a Spanish instructor.
Take Care,
Mr. McKinney
High School Remote Learners (Only): If this is for health concerns I understand. This is an individual decision. Any student that chooses to do Remote Learning will be making a commitment for the entire first semester. Remote Learning students will be taking their classes through a virtual education site. We will give them url to go to in order to login. Remote Learners will be provided a user name and a password. These courses are offered online virtually. There will be a virtual instructor and grading. All course work will be completed online. Students who complete courses will receive a grade from the online course and all students who receive a 60% D- and above will receive a Passing grade. All course will count as pass or fail for report cards, graduation and the student’s transcript. They will not be receiving letter grades. Our teachers having nothing to do with these courses and will not be available for help. All students will coordinate with the online provider with any technical issues or help with educational issues that they may have. We will get computers out to the Remote Learners right before school starts. We will have an announcement out later. Anyone that would like to change their status from Remote Learning to In Person Learning will need to call the high school office prior to Monday, August 10th, or email dmckinney@havana126.net or awherley@havana126.net
Thanks,
Mr. McKinney

If you have not set up an account with our student management system, Alma, please do so. If you have provided the school with your email then you will receive an email inviting you to set an account up tonight at 5:00 (Monday, July 27). I will be at the west doors controlling the number of people in the hallway. The hallways will have tape on the floor to mark social distancing. All will be required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth in order to enter. Registration forms will be filled out in the office.
Freshman Orientation – Will be on Tuesday, August 11th. In order to keeping numbers below 50 in the high school gym, only one parent/guardian can accompany their student. All must wear masks upon entering the west side doors. There are 3 time slots.
Last name A-F will be from 5:30 – 6:30, G-M will be from 6:45-7:45, N-Z will be from 8:00-9:00.

Mr. Plater has our district wide policies written for having school this year. I have the specific procedures written for the high school and I am waiting on the last minute changes we are expecting from our state leadership before I send it to everyone. I want you to know I will do everything I can to make this a safe school and that I will try to provide as many experiences for our students’ this year as I am allowed to provide.
There will be two educational options given in person instruction or remote learning. With in-person instructions students will have school on the early dismissal schedule every day. With remote learning, students will need to log into their teacher’s video stream during their class period to view instruction. They will be able to email questions they have. The same classroom work with the same due dates will be required. Everyone will receive typical grading for their classes this year.
More Guidance Coming Soon,
Mr. McKinney
Registration: We are encouraging all who can to register their student and pay their fees online. The link at the bottom provides directions for online registration and fee paying. If you are not able to do so, then we will have high school student registration on Wednesday, August 05th at the high school gym from 9:00 - 1:00, 2:30 - 5:00. We ask that you park in the west parking lot. Only one parent/guardian will be allowed in to register their student. The student may accompany the parent if they need a schedule changed. Masks will be required upon entry. We will only allow 50 people total into the gym. Again, I think it would best serve everyone if they registered and paid fees online. Here is the link to the directions. https://5il.co/hmdm
