Dear Junior High students and parents:

Students we miss you! Our thoughts are with each of you. The staff all wish that we could see you for the remainder of the school year, but the Governor’s orders to keep social distancing rules in place applies to the schools as well.

I wanted to remind everyone that all work will need to completed and turned in by May 11th. Teachers will continue to be available to help you with your work completion through this date. During the week of May 11th – 15th, we will be finalizing grades and gathering items to get back to students. We will have two designated pick up times for the students. The pickup will be in front of the Junior High building where students are usually dropped off in the morning. Parents will not need to get out of their cars. Simply ask for your child’s belongings and we will bring a bag of items with your child’s name on it. In the bags, we will have locker items, report cards, 8th grade promotional certificates, 8th grade awards, and yearbooks. There might be a few other items as well.

Monday, May 18th - 5th and 6th grade item pick up from 4-6 P.M.

Tuesday, May 19th - 7th and 8th grade item pick up from 4-6 P.M.

Another item that I wanted discuss concerns your student’s Chromebook. This year is the rotation for new Chromebooks. Our plan was to give you the ones you have had for the last three years. The Chromebook belongs to the student, if your tech fees have been paid for the last three years. Even if you still owe payment, the school district is going to let you keep them for the summer. If payment is still needed and not paid by the time school starts in the fall, the Chromebooks will need to be returned at the beginning of the school year. Fee statements will be included during the pick-up on May 18th and 19th. If you owe a fee, you can send payment to the Havana Junior high school by mail.

I know that some of you are concerned about how your grades will look. The Illinois State Board of Education advised us that your grades cannot fall lower than what you earned on your third quarter report card. Grades can only improve or stay the same. Your grades will reflect your quality of work and completion of work, which is very similar to how you complete work at school. The staff and I feel that if you have completed all of your work, it is of good quality, and it followed the teacher’s directions, then your grade will reflect this.

8th Graders- I will be sending an email to all of you with a video of the 8th grade bridging ceremony. Please share this with your parents so they can see it as well. I will be sending this on May 14th between 6 and 7 P.M.

Athletic Fees: If you paid for Athletic fees for the Spring of 2020, and this was your

1st or 2nd sport and not your free 3rd sport, then your fees will be applied to next year.

If it was your free 3rd sport for 2020, then a refund does not apply.

Sincerely,

Mr. Snider
