Havana CSD News Graphic

Dear Parent(s) or guardian(s):

Havana School District is pleased to announce we are forming a Special Olympics team in conjunction with Special Olympics Illinois, Region H.  We would like to offer your student athlete the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics.  This opportunity gives the school and community the chance to develop programs and initiatives to enhance the educational experience for all students.

Special Olympics is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual/physical disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.  Getting involved in Special Olympics, IL will provide the athletes from Havana and the surrounding area the opportunity to participate in the following sports: basketball, swimming, bocce, track and field, soccer, bowling, powerlifting softball and snowshoe.  Our goal is to have a team together for the spring competition this May.

In order for your child to participate in Special Olympics, each athlete must have a completed “Application for Participation in Special Olympics Illinois” on file.  The medical clearance portion of the application must be completed by a physician.  We have also included a brief survey to assist with determining the interest level for each sport.

Please return the attached application and survey to your child’s teacher by March12.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Lynde Pavich at lpavich@soill.org or 217-544-3023 or Rhonda Cameron at rcameron@havana126.net or 309-543-3384 ext. 600.

In addition, a parent/community information night will be held Wednesday, March 14th @7:00.  Please come to learn more about Special Olympics and how you can be part of the experience.
